Crochet?

I picked up something that is very challenging a few weeks ago.  Paint-doku...or Griddler puzzle book! (Nonogram)


 It dawned on me today it resembles Filet Crochet!


My first two nonograms are not going well....

    I honestly do not know how this can even be done. It's mind boggling. It's not surprising that it looks like fillet crochet, but why is it so darned hard to follow? Beats me!
